The Christian Church

The Christian Churches are similar to and originate from a common beginning shared with The Church of Christ and The Disciples of Christ. We are a New Testament based, nondenominational (self-governed and self-supported) church, that seeks to promote unity and fellowship between all churches who believe in God and Christ. ( 1 Corinthians 12:12-31)

The modern Christian Church stems from the Restoration Movement of the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. The most influential person of this movement for the modern Christian Church was a minister named Thomas Campbell. Campbell sought to understand and promote the essential aspects of the Bible and remove man made obstacles or burdens that had become part of various congregation’s through the centuries since the church was formed. Campbell believed that each individual should have the autonomy to develop a relationship with God through Christ. Campbell’s guiding principle, “No human authority has the power to impose new commands or ordinances upon the Church which Christ has not enjoined,” anchors the church still today. (Matthew 15:7-9, Colossians 2:8)
