What We Believe About Being a Christian

Christianity is distinct from other religions because Christ himself set is apart by vocalizing that we would be known by our love (John 13:34-35, Luke 6:27-36, 1 Corinthians 13). He also demonstrated His love and patience for others in the many examples of His interactions with people contained within the gospels. The other aspect of being a Christian is spreading the gospel (Matthew 28:18-20). Each individual has a responsibility to forward the availability of salvation to everyone, while also caring for and edifying each other. Paul advises that Christians should avoid slanderous and vile behavior such as gossip and immorality while James warns that we should guard what we say at all times ( 1 Timothy 6:2-5. James 3). Christ himself charges us with approaching each other with kindness when he restates that He and God the Father desire mercy, not sacrifice (Matthew 9:13, 12:7, Hosea 6:6, Micah 6:6-8).

Prayer is the Christian’s way of communicating with God and Jesus. Jesus taught that prayer was to be earnest, concise, and spoken with reverence (Matthew 6: 5-8). In general, the more one prays, the better their relationship with God. Prayers for others are a very powerful way Christians can have an effect on the world and each other (James 5:13-16, Matthew 6:5-14, Luke 18:13)
